How To Keep Cats Away From Your Garden Birds |
|
Sent in by bluebird Although cats are much loved pets if you enjoy watching birds in your garden then you are more likely to see them as pests. Make a fence out of chicken wire that leans in the direction from which the cat will approach. The cat can't climb over a fence at this angle. Fill some bottles with water and place them in your garden - the light reflection is meant to deter cats. Vaseline or other grease on a bird table pole will stop cats climbing it. Place spiky plant clippings under bushes to prevent cats from using these areas to stalk birds. Scent deterrents can help repel or mark a territory. You could also try orange peel as cats do not like the smell of citrus. Use a bucket of water or a water pistol to chase a cat out of the garden. You can also get automated water sprinklers. You can buy ultrasonic deterrents which have an alarm which is uncomfortable to cats but inaudible to humans. You can find out more about cat deterrents at British Bird Lovers. About the Author
