Updating an outdated kitchen |
|
Do you want to update your kitchen without the associated cost of putting in a completely new kitchen? Here are a few tips and ideas of how to update your exsisting kitchen.
Kitchen Colour Scheme - completely up to you, but make sure you look at kitchens and go to your local paint shop and get advise first before deciding.
Cupboards & Cupboard Handles - some older style cupboards can be painted (we had pink with wooden handles - changed to black with chrome handles and white walls & ceilings with brushed chrome appliances, BIG difference)
Doors leading into/out of the kitchen? Take off or update?
Celing - oh the difference a nice white ceiling can make!
Accessories - time for a new jug, wine rack, pot rack, fruit bowl?
Art - if you have a big enough space, what about a funky piece of art work on a wall?
Appliances - decide what look you want to go for, stainless, brushed chrome, white, black?
Bench tops - recycled timber, wooden bench tops look great, if you are renovating your whole house keep this idea in mind before you throw away anything, you never know where it may come in handy and save you money!
Lighting - you can update your lighting with modern fixtures
Light switches/Wall plugs - is it time for some modern ones? Are you switches or plugs starting to fade in colour? Simply replacing the front cover can give you a new, clean white look.
Flooring - what is hiding under your current flooring? Are there floor boards to polish - see our article on "How to Polish Floor Boards" or is it time for new tiles, vinyl etc
