Does your house have a mould problem? |
|
It can sometimes be hard to tell if you house may have a mould problem. The number one give away in many cases is the smell. You should definitely be able to notice this – and you may have already noticed some houses smell moldier than others. If you can smell this in particular areas of your home, be sure to check those spots for excess moisture built up or leaks. A lot of the time you will be able to see the mould, but you should always remember to check behind your curtains, under furniture and around your windows. You may also see paint peeling around your windows which could mean there is moisture in the wood and that is why the paint is peeling. This should be checked as the wood may also start to rot with excess moisture built up of a period of time. Mould and moisture can spread through wood and rot it without you knowing, so if you have decaying/rotten wood anywhere you should have this checked for further structural damage. Roof leaks can also be a cause of moisture and mould build up, get your handyman or builder to check if you have any doubts. There are many products on the market to help combat mould – but always remember the problem could go deeper and ask yourself “where is the mould coming from?” TIP – A dehumidifier can help reduce moisture in your home as well as other inbuilt systems.
